Dell has recently released a new line of systems targeting the Small Business User called Vostro.
So far from what I can price out on their site I am very impressed with the affordability of the laptops. I have been looking specifically at the Dell Vostro 1400 Notebook and it looks like quite a nice system, with a great price point.
Normally when I price out systems on the Dell Australia web-site I come to a price of around $3000.00 including their three-year complete cover warranty and the specifications that I want.
With the Dell Vostro 1400 laptop I can price out the system that I want, including warranty and delivery for under $2500.00.
Another good thing about the Vostro range from what I have been reading is that Dell doesn’t actually load on all the crap-ware and bloat-ware that notoriously come with new computers that you purchase. That would be a huge help for system administrators as we now don’t have to spend an entire day just getting rid of stuff that we don’t want on the system.
The only software issues that I don’t like are that I can’t remove the free anti-virus trial, or Microsoft Works that comes with the system. We have volume licenses on Microsoft Office and Anti-Virus, so I would rather get it without any of that stuff as well. But it’s a lot better then it has been in the past with new systems.
So if I was going to be purchasing a new laptop anytime soon I would probably go for Dell Vostro 1400.
If you don’t know what bloat-ware and crap-ware can do to your system then have a watch of this Mac advertisement that illustrates the very well…

The Vostro are a piece of shit that freezes randomly because there ia a hardware bug with ACPI. Dell has not fixed the issue
